Abstract

Nanocomposites obtained from blends of poly (lactic acid) and an ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate (EMA-GMA) terpolymer were prepared. The commercial organoclay Cloisite 20A was used as nanocharge. Interactions between the clay and the terpolymer were investigated by torque rheometry. The structure of the nanocomposites were determined by X-ray diffraction. The results revealed the formation of intercalated nanocomposites and microcomposites. The role of clay as a compatibilizing agent was evidenced by SEM micrographs. The mechanical properties proved to be dependent on both the morphology and the degree of dispersion of clay.
